Your resume is often the first impression you make — so let’s make it count!
We see hundreds of resumes, and one thing’s for sure: the more your skills match to the open position, the more you stand out. So, how do you craft a resume that grabs attention? Here are a few tips we share with our candidates:
Keep It Clean and Easy to Read
When it comes to your resume layout, less is more. Use clear headings and bullet points, and make sure the formatting is consistent. A clean, well-organized resume can make a big difference. Good choices for templates are free CV makers and Word. Also always double-check for accurate personal data, grammar and correct spelling.
Spelling and Grammar
Always double-check your CV for grammar and correct spelling. Make sure your email address and telephone number are written correctly as well as accuracy of mentioned links and websites. Keep your CV in one language, don’t mix two languages in one resume.
Align Your Skills with the Job Description
Take the time to read the job description carefully. Look at the specific skills and technologies the employer is seeking. Then, match those to your own experience. If the role calls for Python, Java, or AWS, be sure those skills are front and center on your resume. List them prominently, and back them up with relevant projects you’ve worked on. It’s about making it easy for hiring managers to see that you’ve got what they need. Always provide correct information in your CV.
Highlight Achievements, Not Just Responsibilities
Instead of just listing out your daily tasks, focus on what you’ve accomplished. Did you increase system efficiency? Reduce downtime? Automate a process that saved your team hours each week? Employers want to see the real-world impact you’ve made.
Showcase Relevant Projects
Have you worked on projects that align with the role you’re applying for? Make sure to include those! Hiring managers love to see how you’ve applied your skills to solve real problems. Whether it’s a personal project, or something you did at your last job, talk about the project, your role, and the technologies you used. It shows initiative and experience.
Include Certifications and Training
In IT, things change fast. Employers like to see that you’re keeping up with the latest developments. Be sure to list any certifications (like AWS, Cisco, Microsoft, etc.) and relevant courses you’ve completed. This shows you’re committed to learning and staying current in your field.
Tailored Resumes Get Results
Let’s face it, a generic resume doesn’t cut it anymore. Taking the time to tailor your resume for each specific role shows that you’re serious about the position — and that you’re the right fit for the job. We work closely with candidates to help them put their best foot forward, and it all starts with a great resume.
